At the New Teacher Center, we are committed to protecting your privacy, and we believe in being transparent about what information we collect and how we use it. In keeping with these principles, our Privacy Policy explains how the New Teacher Center and our corporate affiliates and subsidiaries (“NTC,” “we”, and “us”) collect, use, and share information when your register for and use our website or mobile applications, including NTC’s Learning Zone platform and Ask a Mentor website (the “Service”).

This Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference into NTC’s Learning Zone Terms of Use.

“Personal Information” can be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you.

"Personal Information" means information that alone or when in combination with other information may be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you, such as: name, address, email address, or phone number. We do not consider Personal Information to include information that has been anonymized so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual.

THE SERVICE COLLECTS YOUR INFORMATION

We collect Personal Information when you:
  • register to use the Service;
  • use the Service; and
  • communicate with us.

We also collect information, such as anonymous usage statistics, by using cookies, server logs, and other similar technology as you use the Service.

Registration and Account Information. You must register to use certain parts of the Service. When you register, we will ask for information, such as your name, username, and password. You may also choose to provide other information, such as your email address, photograph, gender, birth date, school, address, and biographical information.

Using the Service. We collect information you provide when using the Service. For example, when you interact with other users and mentors/coaches by posting messages, feedback, forms with information about your teaching experiences, content, and videos, the Service will collect the information you provide in such submissions, including any Personal Information. The Service will also collect information about your group membership.

Making Payments. When you make payments through the Service, you will need to provide financial account information, such as your credit card number, to our third-party service providers.

Newsletter Sign-Up. We may collect Personal Information when you sign up for newsletters and other communications from us.

Customer Support. We may collect Personal Information through your communications with our customer-support team.

Cookies, Automatic Data Collection, and Related Technologies. The Service collects information that is generated automatically as you use it, including information about your interaction with the Service and other users, and device information, such as unique device identifiers and IP address.

When you use the Service, we and our third-party partners, such as analytics providers, use “cookies” and other similar technologies to collect information about how the Service is used. Our partners also may collect information about your online activities over time and on other websites or apps. You may be able to change browser settings to block and delete cookies when you access the Service through a web browser. However, if you do that, the Service may not work properly.

Consent. By using the Service, you are authorizing us to gather, parse, and retain data related to the provision of the Service.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use Personal Information to:
  • facilitate and improve our services; and
  • communicate with you.

We may use aggregate information for any purpose, including for marketing purposes.

To Provide the Service. We use information, including Personal Information, to provide, personalize, analyze, and improve the Service and our services.

Communications. We may send email to the email address you provide to us to verify your account and for informational and operational purposes, such as account management, customer service, or system maintenance.

Marketing. We may use information, including Personal Information, to provide online advertising on and off the Service. We may also send you email with personalized offers and information about products and services.

Aggregate Data. We may anonymize or aggregate data collected through the Service and use it for any purpose. For example, we may generate reports to help show us how tools and services are being used and share anonymized or aggregated usage information to our funders.

HOW WE MAY SHARE Your INFORMATION

We may share your information:
  • with our third-party vendors and service providers;
  • with other users;
  • with districts and schools;
  • with researchers;
  • as part of a grant or other funding process;
  • to comply with legal obligations;
  • to protect and defend our rights and property; and
  • with your permission.

We do not rent, sell, or share Personal Information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies for their direct marketing purposes, unless we have your permission.

We Use Vendors and Service Providers. We may share any information we receive with vendors and service providers we work with in connection with providing the Service.

Displaying to Other Users. Our Service offers many ways to find and share useful information and content. The information and content you provide to the Service may be displayed on the Service. Other users of the Service may be able to see information about you, such as your name, photograph, school, actions taken on the Service, a list of your favorite content, last activity date, whether you are currently using the Service, and group membership. You may also choose to make content, such as videos, available to other users. You may be able to control what information and content is displayed to other users using the privacy settings provided by the Service. We encourage you to carefully consider the information you share. We cannot control how other users will use the posted information.

Groups. The Service permits users to access and join groups. Some groups are public groups and the group content is accessible to anyone on the Internet, even individuals who are not users of the Service. There is no membership to public groups. Other groups are private groups that are only accessible to members of the group. Content and member lists of private groups are viewable only to group members.

District’s and Program Lead’s Access to Teacher Information. The Service provides functionality for programs to control what teacher-related information received by the Service, including mentoring/coaching analysis and results, is shared with program leads. The Service will attempt to provide you with notice that your information may be available to program leads. For example, you will see the following notification in green at the bottom of your teacher or school leader tool set interface in the online tools platform when the program leader can see the information about you:

If you do not see this note, your program leader does not have access to your confidential online tool content, and NTC will allow access only to aggregate data reports that may show which aspects of the Service you use and how much, but not the tool content.

Researchers. NTC works with third-party researchers to improve our services and conduct studies to impact the field. As part of this research, NTC may allow third-party researchers to have access to data and content submitted to the Service.

Marketing. We do not rent, sell, or share Personal Information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies for their direct marketing purposes, unless we have your permission. We may allow access to other data collected by the Service to enable the delivery of online advertising on and off the Service, or send you personalized offers and information we think may be useful or relevant to you.

For Funding Applications. We seek grants and other funds to help us accomplish our mission. As part of that process, we may need to provide information about the services we provide through the Service. Some of this information may include information, including Personal Information, about users of the Service.

Legal and Other Disclosures. We may access, preserve, and disclose your information, if we believe doing so is required or appropriate to: comply with law enforcement requests and legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; respond to your requests; or protect your, our, or others’ rights, property, or safety.

Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing due diligence, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of company assets, or transition of service to another provider, your information may be sold or transferred as part of such a transaction as permitted by law and/or contract.

With Your Permission. We may also disclose your Personal Information with your permission.

INFORMATION SECURITY

We take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Unfortunately, the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you provide to us.

By using the Service or providing Personal Information to us, you agree that we may communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy, and administrative issues relating to your use of the Service. If we learn of a security system’s breach, we may attempt to notify you electronically by posting a notice on the Service or sending an email to you. You may have a legal right to receive this notice in writing. To receive free written notice of a security breach (or to withdraw your consent from receiving electronic notice), please notify us at privacy@newteachercenter.org.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We will take steps to delete it if we learn we have collected it.

We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 13 years of age, and no part of the Service is directed to children under the age of 13. If you learn that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, you may alert us at privacy@newteachercenter.org. If we learn that we have collected any personal information from children under 13, we will promptly take steps to delete such information and terminate the child’s account.

INTERNATIONAL USERS

By using the Service, you will transfer data to the United States.

If you are visiting from the European Union or other regions with laws governing data collection and use, please note that you are agreeing to the transfer of your information to the United States and processing globally. By providing your information you consent to any transfer and processing in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

If you would like to update or correct any Personal Information that you have provided to us through your use of the Service or otherwise, or if you have suggestions for improving this Privacy Policy, please send an email to privacy@newteachercenter.org.

CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY AND PRACTICES

We may revise this Privacy Policy, so review it periodically.

We will post any adjustments to the Privacy Policy on this web page, and the revised version will be effective when it is posted. If we make any material changes to this policy, we will take steps to notify you of such changes by posting them on this page or by sending you an email or other notification.
